Kathy Turner studied Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York for 2 years before switching to a major in Fine Art with a minor in Art History at Towson State University in Maryland. After graduating she studied traditional Japanese woodblock printing for 4 years in Japan under two different artists. Upon returning to the US Kathy worked for Degage in McLean, VA creating decorative murals, custom painted furniture, and faux finishes. Raising small children took precedence over work and art for several years, but a couple years ago she picked up her paintbrushes again and joined the Arlington Artists Alliance.  Representational work in oil paint was initially her favorite genre, followed by acrylics, watercolor and woodblock printing. She paints portraits of people that attempt to show the quirks of their personality, or a capture a moment in motion. Textures and illusion fascinate this artist, and recent works have become increasingly 3 dimensional and abstract, incorporating found and recycled materials with various acrylic paint mediums.  This artist wants to make you think and wonder when you look at her work, even if it is only to ask, “What the heck is that?”
